A man suffering from asbestos related cancer has launched a High Court legal battle for compensation of up to £250,000.

Richard Shepherdson, 61, has developed malignant mesothelioma, a cancer of the tissues surrounding his lungs or his abdomen, according to a writ issued at London's High Court

A farmer in Essex is refusing to remove a ton of asbestos dumped on his land by fly-tippers because it would cost him thousands of pounds.
The potentially deadly asbestos was left on David Gibbon's land at South Fambridge, near Southend.

Demolition firm reassures residents on asbestos - Eastbourne Today

Worried residents have voiced their concerns over the dangers of asbestos as the demolition of the former bus depot in Cavendish Place and Susans Road gets underway.

Contractors began demolishing the building, which is known to contain asbestos, last week. The site has been earmarked for more than 100 new homes.

A fireman's wife died of cancer after being exposed to asbestos as she washed his uniform.

Mum of two Kathleen Thompson, 54, contracted mesothelioma after regularly coming into contact with the dust on husband Alan's clothes.

Alan, 56, of Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, worked at a fire station where a large pipe where they hung kit was lagged with asbestos.

BBC NEWS School opens after asbestos moved

Pupils and staff return to a school in Somerset after work to remove asbestos was carried out. The material was found in Westonzoyland Primary School during the summer holidays, when some minor repairs were carried out.

Remedial work has taken place to clean the affected areas and remove traces of the substance.
